About Amber
Amber was born in Little Rock, Arkansas two minutes and thirty seconds after her twin sister, Andrea. Growing up, Amber’s home was always filled with music. Amber, her sister, and mother would clean the house and listen to Karen Carpenter, The Pointer Sisters, and whatever other records could be found.
Amber has always been a planner at heart. From designing elaborate personal vacations with accompanying itinerary notebooks to planning a trip for 100 of her fellow choir members, Amber believes the fun is in the details. Amber has known precisely how she wants her future to unfold since her youth. In high school, she even drew blueprints of her future dream home with a nursery for her children and an office for her spouse. In the third decade of her life, the dreams she documented have begun to come true.
Amber graduated with a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences from Middle Tennessee State University. She has an innate desire to improve the welfare of children and following her college graduation served as an investigator and then supervisor for the Department of Children’s Services for four years. Amber is currently serving her second year on the Board of Directors for Nashville in Harmony, a GLBTA choir in Nashville with a mission of using music to build community and create social change.
Amber is described by her friends as being kind to all, having a pure heart, a singing voice that silences a crowd, embracing the diversity in each person she encounters, and one who consistently succeeds against the odds. She also believes that success is much easier to obtain with Rachel’s unending encouragement.
About Rachel
Rachel was born in Jacksonville, Florida and the ocean has always called to her. She likes to be challenged, so she earned a Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of South Florida. Rachel has played tennis since she was eight years old and continued to play competitively through her college career on the USF Tennis Team. Rachel still enjoys playing and teaching tennis. Rachel is self-employed owning her own business, Diversity Builder, which provides internet marketing and SEO services for companies, as well as diversity training.
Rachel has a childlike obsession with play and frequently invites Amber to explore her silly side and inner child. Since Rachel works from a home office, she can be found taking breaks sliding around the hardwood floors in slippery, fuzzy socks. Although Rachel spends much of her time at home (working and residing), she is not adept at making a house a home. She appreciates and values Amber’s decorating, organizational, and cooking skills. One day, she would like to have Amber home full-time, which is exactly where Amber would like to be.
Rachel loves rushing water in the form of rapids, waves, and waterfalls and likes to relax in these settings. She loves music and especially listening to the angel she lives with, sing to her.
How We Met
Rachel and Amber met through at a Business Networking International meeting in Green Hills. A mutual friend had recommended that Amber visit the meeting with Rachel when Amber was looking for a new job. Amber contacted Rachel via email and Rachel invited Amber to join her that next week. After the meeting, Rachel and Amber were intrigued with each other, but kept things at a friend level, as they were both in long term relationships at the time. Amber was offered three jobs from that BNI meeting, but will tell you that the best thing she found there was Rachel. Amber and Rachel connected again several months later when Rachel contacted Amber in order to obtain information on how to buy a last minute ticket to the spring concert of Nashville in Harmony. When they spoke, they both realized that the relationships they had been in had ended and what had been intriguing all those months ago turned into mutual attraction. The rest, as they say, is history.
